I purchased the GE 30 in. 5.0 cu. ft. Freestanding Gas Range in Stainless Steel with Griddle 18.7k from Home Depot. The range is fine however the griddle is extremely heavy and awkward to remove for cleaning and each time I use the oven condensation forms on the griddle and then it rusts. The rust does not clean off well. The burner goates are rough and is destroying a new set of pot and pans. Very disappointed in the range top accessories.

I got the 30in GE Profile slide in gas range with double oven. I contacted customer service in a chat about a few questions and Kimberly was not helpful and curt. I almost returned this product just because customer service was so awful. I finally found a place to download a user manual, I did everything you should for the reversible griddle/grill and after one use it is rusted and disgusting. I love the actual stove top I am still figuring out the ovens I don't think it bakes evenly but according to Kimberly it could be my bakeware although the same bakeware I used in my old oven and had no issues. So far, not impressed with GE overall and my kitchen is completed in their products now :(

Rust everywhere

This item started to rust almost immediately when we got our stove. In fact, another family member has the same stove and this happened to them as well. Moisture from pots boiling on adjacent burners gets on the griddle and somehow it gets rusty even though we wipe the water/condensation off every time. We flipped it over hoping it wouldn™™t keep happening and both sides are hopelessly rusted. Looks like a replacement is almost $200, which is ridiculous for a part that will inevitably get ruined again because you can™™t avoid moisture while cooking. We™™ve tried cleaning it a million times and finally gave up. We have to cover our stove with a butcher block when people visit because we™™re so embarrassed with how terrible our stove looks. Also worried to have so much rust near the burners when we cook. Horrible product.

First, be aware that the surface cooking area of this cast iron grill is a full 2 inches smaller than the that of the cast aluminum grill it is meant to replace. Second, GE Appliances sells the exact same cast iron grill on Amazon, for about half the price. Still, even if the surface is not perfect, this cast iron grill is worlds better than the aluminum one, and worth the money.

Bought this for my GE Range Model JGB860EEJ6ES. I was concerned about the tabs fitting and how high/low it would sit on my range. As you can see in the photos it is perfect. With the handles, the cook area is smaller than the original non-stick griddle but given the size of the burner underneath the griddle, I'm comfortable with the cook area. I have not cured it yet so don't know how it will perform but for those concerned about fit, it's a perfect replacement for my GE range. A hefty price but I'm not a fan of non-stick surfaces.

Our range is only 1 1/2 years old but it is starting to show signs of wear and we want to buy a replacement before they are not available. Our grill is now cast iron, but the only one on the website that is cast iron looks very different. (WB31X24998 with handles). The website one that looks similar (WB31X24738) is aluminum. The descriptions on each just say "Interlocks with grates on select GE Profile™ Series gas ranges". Not very helpful if we don't know which ranges.

Rusting griddle suggestion to GE
Felinefancier
8/3/2021
I won't beat a dead horse--my griddle is rusting like those in the other comments. And yes, it's very disappointing. I would suggest that GE make VERY CLEAR and PROMINENT in the manual and marketing materials that this component is "equivalent to a cast iron skillet and needs special treatment." It's clear from the comments below this is going straight over peoples' heads. Also, I have treated rusty pans and it's very hard and messy work. Suggesting to customers (comment below) that they can take the rust/seasoning off their griddle themselves is neither realistic nor practical.

Nice heavy construction. Fits perfectly in between the grates. It rests on the grates next to it otherwise there would be feet sticking up when you reversed it. It™™s a little rough compared to my old cast iron pan. But like any good cast iron it will just get better with care and use. I think it™™s unfortunate that a lot of the bad reviews for this product are from people that misused it or thought they were reviewing the Teflon/Non-Stick griddle. This is not a coated non stick griddle! It is cast iron. I™™m glad I can now use the oval middle burner on my stove! If you are considering buying this and are dismayed by the poor reviews, check out the reviews on Amazon. It has 4.5 stars and great reviews.

Just recommended this cast iron griddle to a friend, and when I was double checking the part number, I was flabbergasted by the poor reviews. We weren't thrilled with the aluminum non-stick griddle that came with our oven, so we upgraded to this cast iron piece four months ago. Didn't do anything special to prep it, such as sanding or baking in a layer of seasoning. Just cleaned, added some oil, and started cooking. We literally throw everything on it-- eggs, bacon, potatoes, grilled cheese, pancakes, sausage, chicken... Works like a dream! Not to mention, the best smashburgers we have ever made! Poor reviews are from people who do not know how to use cast iron.

After reading the reviews, the only thing I can understand is that people have no clue on how to use a cast-iron Grill. Once it™™s seasoned it works great. You always have to season a cast iron grill, once you wash it with soap and water you have to season it again, so that being said do not wash it with soap and water. As for the dimensions it™™s a little wider because it has two flanges that hang out so it can hang off the burner grates. Super grill!

This is a cast-iron grill, and as such, to avoid charred drippings that are near-impossible to clean off, one much commit to seasoning its surface before every use. That involves initially sanding (to remove rough surfacing) and then baking the cooking-oil-coated grill in the oven before each use. Too bad GE doesn't give prospective buyers the heads-up on the labor needed to turn this grill into an everyday CLEANABLE cooking surface. Also too bad that GE doesn't offer an aluminum and treflon-coated grill insert. I feel that I have wasted $119 on this accessory.

This griddle/grill is listed at a replacement for the WB31X24738 aluminum grill that it comes with. How is a 10 inch wide grill suppose to fit in a 9 inch space? Not a good replacement suggestion. That means it would be placed on the grates of the burners and further away from the flames.

This cast iron grill/griddle was THE selling-point for going with the GE range we chose. I am a cast iron snob and I could tell that it's high quality... it's substantial and weighty, but lighter and easier to handle than my Lodge two-burner grill/griddle. After cooking with it for a few months, I'm completely in love. As long as you keep it well-seasoned and care for it the way you would any cast iron, it cooks and cleans up gorgeously.
I was puzzled by the poor reviews, but when I read them I realized they were by people who were not familiar with using cast iron. The rust issues, problems cleaning, etc. are problems with not knowing how to care for cast iron.
*** If you've never used cast iron and prefer Teflon, then go with a non-stick griddle, not this one. If you do use cast iron, you will LOVE this!
As with any cast iron, clean it only with water and a scrubber (I use Kosher salt to scrub off any stuck-on food), rinse and towel-dry, heat over the burner for a few minutes to get rid of any remaining moisture, then rub with oil to reseason (I use coconut oil). Take good care of it and it will outlast your stove!

The issue
Our new GE range did not come with the Reversible cast iron griddle / grill, it had the aluminum non-stick griddle.
Items used to make the griddle side better for eggs.
6 inch long 2 x 4 block and some 120 grit sand paper, paper towels and vegetable oil
Repair & Advice
#WB31X24998 Reversible Griddle is a bit rough on all sides out of the box so on the GRIDDLE side only I used the block wrapped with the sand paper to knock some of the sharp edges off the surface, not completely smooth mind you, just enough to get rid of the rough points, I cleaned it, dried it then coated the whole cast iron reversible griddle/grill with a LIGHT coat of oil and baked it in the oven. I set the oven at 500 deg, put the griddle in and hit start. It took 15 min to preheat then 1 hour bake then turned off the oven and let it cool in the oven making a nice black seasoned non-stick griddle... I use it every day. Note... the thinner the oil layer before baking the better and never any soap to clean, just water, dry and a light re-oil on both sides due to burner flame burn off. the best part about it is you cant hurt it... mess up the surface just clean and re-season it and your back non-stick. We enjoy it

When I purchased my stove the place where I bought it threw this in for me. I was shocked and pleased at the same time. Well not knowing how to use cast iron I started cooking on it with just a cooking spray. What a hassle it was to clean this completely, hint use dryer sheets and let soak all burned food comes off. I was told that I had to "season" it, well I did that and tried to cook on it again. EVERYTHING now was burned and it stunk up the house. I seasoned with vegetable oil and baked it in 350 degree oven for one hour. Let it cool in the oven and stored in the bottom drawer of the stove. I just got this cleaned and will be donating it. I honestly do not know what I did wrong if anything. Guess I'm just not a cast iron cook, but I did find a broiler pan that goes with my stove. I don't know why they stopped including that with the stove, have to pay a lot of money for an appliance it would be nice to get a "freebie"!!!

I just got this to replace the no stick aluminum griddle that comes with the range. In just 8 months I managed to kill the no stick! It seems I'm hard on no stick coatings!
I've used cast iron skillets for decades. If you don't wash them with soap, they are rock solid on no stick. You can use any spatulas and scrape away merrily and the cast irons just doesn't care.
Despite a review that states it won't fit, it fits perfectly.
My only complaint is it could be designed better. They put handles on it that take away about 16" of cook surface. Those handles aren't needed.
